Dividend Income Update Aug 2016

Dividend Income

This month I reported that one of my largest holdings increased its dividend paymout by over 30%.  This gave a huge boost to my annual income of $200.

If you wish to view any of my past monthly updates you can find them here.

My monthly income was 110% higher than the same month a year ago and up -15% over last quarter.  I took in a woping $718.62 for the month of August.  My portfolio value increased from $235,164 to $240,640 which also includes my contributions of $5393.

I ended the month with my annual future dividends at $8922 up from $8350 last month.  My original goal for 2016 was to hit $9000 in income which I should easily hit in September.  I think I may try for an even $10,000 in future dividend income by the end of this year.  All and all, that would be truly incredible feet.  Something that I never thought I would have accomplished 3 years ago when I set out on this journey.

Current Stats
  • 12 Month Income = $5743
  • Total 12 Month Future Dividends = $8922

This month I am providing a new graph which shows my historical and projected income. Each of the dips on the red curve are months in which I received major dividend cuts.  I have always seems to bounce back each and every month.

Monthly Capital Contribution

Below you can view the total dollar contributions made to my Dividend Portfolio since inception along with the 12 month total in red.  Currently my 12 month capital contribution total is coming in at $59,879.  Going forward I would like to contribute at least $50,000 a year to my dividend portfolio and as of the last 12 months I seem to be crushing that number since I am currently closer to $60,000.  In the month of August I added $5393 to my dividend portfolio.

Since I tend to take profits more often than the typical buy and hold dividend investor, my Cost Basis and Portfolio Value ratio are not an accurate reflection of my overall profits within the portfolio.

Weekly Purchases - 8/23/16

Written by MrStockFox. Posted in Weekly Update

So I had a reader ask last week if I could comment a little on why I purchased what I did.  I wont always have time to go in depth as to the why's but this week I will try to explain a couple.

Oak Tree Capital - I am invested in this company because of Howard Marks.  Earlier this year I had the chance to listen to his audio book and really liked it a lot.   Here is a brief overview of his company thanks to yahoo:

Oaktree Capital Group, LLC operates as a global investment management firm that focuses on alternative markets. It manage investments in a number of strategies within six asset classes, including distressed debt; corporate debt, including high yield debt and senior loans; control investing; convertible securities; real estate; and listed equities. The company pursues these strategies through closed-end, open-end, and evergreen funds. Oaktree Capital Group, LLC was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

T Rowe Price - I think its undervalued and I like the fact the company has no long term debt.  Jason Fieber recently wrote a good overview.

Altius Minerals - Altius is very similar to RGLD, SLW and FNV, but really the only one that is still cheap.  I am a huge fan of management as they are the best in the business.  Brief overview of the company:

Altius Minerals Corporation engages in generation and acquisition of mineral resource projects, royalties, and investments in Canada. The company owns royalties and streams in 14 operating mines of copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, precious metals, potash, and thermal and metallurgical coal; and pre-development stage royalties in mineral commodities. Altius Minerals Corporation was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in St. John’s, Canada.

Sprott Inc - I believe that we have entered a new bull market in precious metals.  Sprott is one of the largest beneficiaries of a bull market in this sector.  The better this sector does, the more fees this company will generate.  They are debt free and pay a 5% dividend. Brief overview of the company:

Sprott Inc. is a publicly owned asset management holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the firm provides asset management, portfolio management, wealth management, fund management, and administrative and consulting services to its clients. It offers mutual funds, hedge funds, and offshore funds, along with managed accounts. Further, the firm also provides broker-dealer activities. Sprott Inc. was formed on February 13, 2008 and is based in Toronto, Canada.

The comments program that I had installed on the blog is having conflicts with something else.  I am going to try and find a different comments program and install it this weekend.  Don't be surprised to see some oddities while I try the different pograms.
